In July 2024, the American cybersecurity company CrowdStrike distributed a defective update to its security software, causing widespread problems with Microsoft Windows computers and roughly 8.5 million system crashes. It became one of the largest outages in the history of information technology and a significant test for cyber insurance underwriters, as the outage affected many industries including airlines, banks, hospitals, manufacturing and more.

Leah Peckerman-Haimo has over seventeen years of varied insurance claims experience, currently as a cyber, tech E&O and MPL claims manager at Liberty Mutual. Leah previously handled the same claims for Liberty before taking over the role of manager last year.  Prior to joining Ironshore, Leah was at Zurich for six years where she handled complex medical malpractice, employment practices and diversified financial institutions claims.  Leah started her career at AIG, handling a variety of errors & omissions claims. She has a B.A. from American University and a J.D. from New York Law School.  

 

Deborah Hirschorn 

Managing Director, US Cyber & Technology Claims Leader

Deb leads Lockton’s Cyber & Technology Claims Practice and is responsible for supporting the cyber claims advocates in the U.S. on all cyber claim-related issues. She works closely with her counterparts in product, risk consulting and analytics to ensure that policy language is consistently improved, that clients know about and have access to their insurers’ pre- and post-loss offerings, and that clients remain informed and apprised of industry trends and developments. She frequently speaks on panels addressing cyber exposures and risk management, including ransomware and incident response issues. 

Deb has significant experience in cyber, technology errors and omissions, and miscellaneous professional liability claims. She has handled numerous complex claims, including ransomware incidents, third-party privacy class actions and business interruption matters. In addition to her claims background, Deb has extensive experience as an insurance coverage attorney.

Rick Contorno

As national practice leader for claims investigation and litigation services, Rick is responsible for the delivery of forensic accounting, financial investigative and advisory services for insurance related matters on behalf of carriers, corporations, and their counsel. He regularly advises clients, and supports counsel, on complex insurance issues such as: employee dishonesty; business interruption matters; directors and officers claims; supplier/vendor fraud; representation and warranties disputes; and financial fraud across all industry segments.

With over 25 years of professional service experience, Rick is adept at providing strategic oversight, while leading teams of highly specialized industry and technical subject matter specialists in support of complex investigations and litigation. Furthermore, he has significant experience conducting international investigations, working closely with local RSM offices across the world.

Rick’s prior experience includes consulting and leadership roles within the financial advisory businesses of Ernst & Young, including internal audit, risk management, actuarial services and real estate consulting, along with several years in the internal audit department of a Wall Street investment/brokerage house.

Rick earned his Bachelor of Science in business, finance and accounting, from Miami University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois.
