What is something you wish everybody knew about the CPCU Society?
The CPCU Society is more than just a group of skilled professionals, it’s a big family of members from all over the world who are not only passionate about the insurance industry, but are also interested in a wide variety of topics and in supporting each other’s personal achievements. When I received my CPCU designation they welcomed me into the family with open arms.

CPCU Society members are passionate about their work. Some call this “geeking out” or being an “insurance nerd.” What have YOU been trying to get better at recently, and what was helpful to you?
The CPCU program has given me a better understanding of each phase of the insurance process – not only in my field, underwriting, but also from CSRs and claims representatives to information and technology. Being knowledgeable about various concepts and terms has given me more confidence in my work and is good for my customers.

Some people think there’s more to life than insurance and risk management. If you agree, tell us about something else you’re passionate about.
Coming from humble beginnings, I volunteer as much as I can in the community. Most recently I spend time preparing book bags at the Volunteers of America annual #operationbackpack. I also love listening to all kinds of music. One of my goals is to pick up my alto saxophone, which I played as a kid, brush up on my skills (heavy on the brush up, LOL), and play at a future Annual Meeting with the band.
