Frequently Asked Questions

What is a facilitated study group?

A Facilitated Study Group is an 8-week guided learning experience led by an expert facilitator. You’ll meet weekly with a small group of CPCU candidates to review key concepts, talk through examples, and stay on track with your study plan.

Which CPCU courses include facilitated study groups?

Facilitated Study Groups are currently offered for CPCU 520, 530, 540, and 550

How long is the study group, and what’s the weekly schedule?

Each study group runs for 8 weeks. You’ll attend a 90-minute virtual meeting each week during your scheduled session window.

What happens during the weekly meeting?

You’ll review the most important concepts from that week’s assignments, discuss real-world scenarios, ask questions, and learn alongside other CPCU candidates. The goal is to help you stay steady, confident, and moving forward.

What if I miss a session, can I watch a recording?

Yes. Session recordings are available on demand, so you can catch up if you miss a meeting or want to review a topic again.

What’s included, and what’s not included?

Your study group includes the facilitator-led weekly sessions, a structured weekly plan, peer support, a private online community, and recordings. Study materials are not included and must be purchased separately through The Institutes.

Do I have to be a Pathways member—and what does “complimentary for Pathways members” mean?

Yes. Facilitated Study Groups are a Pathways member benefit, so you must be a Pathways member to enroll.

Pathways is CPCU Society membership for professionals who don’t yet have their CPCU. Pathways membership includes full member benefits, plus access to facilitated study groups.

Even though the study groups are complimentary, you still need to register for your Facilitated Study Group separately.

How do I sign up, and when are the next cohorts offered?

Study groups are offered two times per year. To sign up, log in (or join Pathways), select your course and preferred session, and complete the study group registration. New members: please allow up to 24 hours for dues to process before registering.
