What it’s about:

This webinar will seek to answer questions regarding whether we must change in relation to climate change, and if we must, can we? Global risks will be discussed along with changes in weather events, such as hailstorms and tornadoes. This webinar addresses the impact on the reinsurance industry and discusses how we could make changes to improve the situation. Physical, transitional, and liability risks will be discussed in relation to the P&C carrier, and potential future opportunities and challenges will be posed. 

At the conclusion of this webinar, the active participant will understand:

  • The top five global risks based on impact
  • Climate impacts on various weather events
  • The effect of climate change on the reinsurance industry

Steven M. McElhiney, MBA, CPCU, Are

Steven M. McElhiney is the president of EWI Re, Inc., a subsidiary of NL Industries, Inc. He is also the Chief Risk Officer for the parent company. He also serves as President of Tall Pines Insurance Company of Vermont, an affiliated captive insurance company. 

His insurance industry experience has spanned over two decades with groups including Fireman's Fund, TIG, and Overseas Partners US Reinsurance Company. He has served in the roles of CFO, Corporate Treasurer, and Ceded Reinsurance executive. He served as President and Chairman of the CPCU Society 2011-2012. He is also the Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association. 

Steve has an MBA and a Bachelors of Science, cum laude, from the University of Southern California. He also holds the Associate in Reinsurance and AIAF designations.  

Abi Potter Clough, MBA, CPCU, API

Abi Potter Clough is a senior business procedures consultant for MetLife, leading claims customer communications in digital and legacy media. She earned her CPCU in 2013 and her MBA in International Business in 2012. Abi is the Chair of the International Insurance Interest Group, and also serves as a member of the International Ambassador Committee. In addition to her CPCU and MBA, Abi holds the API, AIC-M, AIM, AIS, and AINS designations.

How do I report my CE for CPCUs credit?

Webinars count for 1 hour of CE for CPCUs credit. Your credit will be automatically reported with your registration for a live webinar. You can also earn CE for CPCUs credit by viewing recorded webinars though the Knowledge Center. All webinars watched in the Knowledge Center will be automatically reported for 1 credit.

Are CPCU Society webinars approved for state licensure CE?

At this time none of the webinars are approved for CE in any state.
