John R. Bender

John R. Bender is chief executive officer of Allied World’s global reinsurance operations. In this role, he is responsible for setting and executing strategies and business plans for Allied World’s global reinsurance platform. Bender sits on Allied World’s Holding Company board as well as both Swiss and U.S. operating company boards. He is a member of Allied World’s Executive Management committee, which sets strategy and direction for the company.

Blake Berman

Blake Berman is a senior vice president at Guy Carpenter, leading the capital and growth advisory team, which assists clients with dynamic financial planning, reinsurance decision making and growth-strategy setting. As part of this function, he oversees Guy Carpenter’s Risk Benchmarks Research, an annual study of insurance industry trends and data. Prior to working at Guy Carpenter, Berman spent two years in a corporate actuarial function at Endurance Specialty Holdings.

Rachel Bonacorsi

Rachel Bonacorsi is a senior analyst with Aon’s U.S. Model Evaluation Team, with expertise in wildfire and hurricane perils. In this role, she is focused on providing clients with a deeper understanding of modeled loss results through the dissection of model hazard and vulnerability components. Bonacorsi has a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, with an emphasis in actuarial science, from Northern Illinois University and holds certification in catastrophe modeling from AIR.

Katie Carter, MS

 

Katie Carter is managing director, analytics, with Aon. In this role, she leads Aon’s U.S. Model Evaluation Team, overseeing change management of new model versions and working with clients to interpret modeled loss results and develop custom views of risk. Carter has nearly 20 years of professional experience in construction management, engineering and reinsurance. She holds both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering.

David Corum, MPPA, CPCU

David Corum is vice president of The Institutes, where he has managed the research program of the Insurance Research Council, a division of The Institutes, since 2005. Corum previously worked at the Insurance Division of the Minnesota Department of Commerce and served as assistant vice president for policy development and research at the American Insurance Association in Washington, D.C.

Mariza Costa

Mariza Costa is senior financial analyst for AM Best. In this role, she is responsible for analyzing and providing financial ratings of global reinsurance organizations, especially in the United States and Bermuda. Costa previously worked on Wall Street in various capacities and served on the equity research team at Stifel Nicolaus, covering the insurance and reinsurance industries.

William Dubinsky, JD, MBA

As a managing director at Willis Re, William Dubinsky heads the Willis Towers Watson Securities insurance-linked securities (ILS) effort in cat bonds, sidecars, ILS funds, contingent capital and derivatives. Since 1997, he has participated in more than 80 deals placing over $12 billion of ILS. Dubinsky previously worked at Swiss Re Capital Markets, where he was responsible for ILS origination and structuring, and at Merrill Lynch, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and capital raising for insurers.

Ed Hochberg, CPA, CPCU, FLMI

Ed Hochberg is chief executive officer of JLT Re North America. He previously served as a senior vice president of financial products for PMA Re, with responsibility for the nontraditional underwriting unit, and as an audit manager with Deloitte & Touche, LLP, serving insurance companies, public utilities and retail clients. Hochberg currently serves on the JLT Re Global Executive Committee the North American Executive Committee as well as chief executive officer of JLT Capital Markets, Inc.

Michael C. Kasdin, JD

Michael C. Kasdin is a partner and insurance lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. He received the Reinsurance Scholar designation by the Reinsurance Association of America, several honors in recognition of his pro bono service, and a nomination for the Maurice Weigle Exceptional Young Lawyer Award. Kasdin is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association.

Kelli Kukulka, CPCU, ARe, AFIS

Kelli Kukulka joined Renaissance Reinsurance U.S. Inc. in 2015 as senior vice president, underwriting. She previously served as a senior treaty underwriter with SCOR Reinsurance Company, specializing in regional property-casualty insurance and agricultural risks. A past president of the Chicago CPCU Society Chapter, Kukulka is currently a member of The Institutes CPCU Society and the National Association of Insurance Women.

M. Steven Levy, MBA, CFA

M. Steven Levy is president and chief executive officer of the Reinsurance Division of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. (Munich Re U.S.) and chairs the board of the Reinsurance Association of America. He previously served as Munich Re U.S.’s chief financial officer and senior vice president. Prior to joining Munich Re U.S., Levy was a senior vice president at Guy Carpenter. He also has prior banking and rating agency experience.

Amanda Lyons, ARe

Amanda Lyons is a managing director with Aon Benfield in Philadelphia, where she serves as a treaty broker, focusing on property-casualty lines of business.  She also serves as a lead instructor for the Aon Benfield Fundamentals of Reinsurance course that trains new employees and clients. Lyons is a registered representative of Aon Benfield Securities and holds her Series 7, 63 and 79 designations.

Michael McAleenan, ARe

Michael McAleenan is a managing director at Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC. In this role, he serves as a treaty broking account executive with account and prospect responsibilities spanning a range of clients in both the property-casualty insurance and mortgage credit sectors. In 2014, McAleenan was named Reactions North America’s Re/Insurance Broking Rising Star.

Kathleen McDonough, JD

Kathleen McDonough is an attorney and partner with Wilson Elser. With more than 20 years of experience in state and federal courts across the country, she regularly provides transactional and business consulting services to a variety of corporate entities. She has also worked extensively in the areas of mass tort and product liability litigation and consulting and has several years' experience with financial crime cases.

Lucian McMahon, CPCU, ARM-E, AU-M

Lucian McMahon is a senior research specialist at the Insurance Information Institute. He previously served as a senior product development specialist for the Emerging Issues team at Insurance Services Office, Inc., working with product developers to provide research on emerging risks, including marijuana. McMahon has also written and spoken on a variety of emerging issues facing the property-casualty insurance industry.

Franklin W. Nutter, JD

Frank W. Nutter is president of the Reinsurance Association of America. He also serves on the advisory boards of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s International Network for the Financial Management of Large Scale Disasters and of the RAND Center on Catastrophic Risk Management and Compensation, the Carl H. Lindner III Center for Insurance and Risk Management Board of Directors, and the editorial panel of Intelligent Insurer magazine. Nutter is a Vietnam veteran and previously served as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

Kara C. Owens, CPCU, RPLU, ARe, ARM

Kara C. Owens is managing director, global cyber underwriting executive, at Markel Corporation, where she establishes and leads Markel’s cyber market strategy and works with cyber underwriters across the company. Owens serves on the board of the Advancement of Professional Insurance Women and founded TransRe’s women’s group, WiRe. She also serves as a mentor for St. John’s University and Temple University risk management students. Owens holds the CPCU, RPLU, ARe and ARM designations.

Paul B. Ranis, JD

Paul B. Ranis is a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, P.A. Since 1995, he has concentrated his litigation practice on employment and commercial matters, conducting more than 25 state and federal trials and handling more than 350 depositions. Ranis has been named a Legal Elite by Florida Trend, which recognizes the top 1.8 percent of Florida lawyers, and has been listed in Super Lawyers magazine in the category of Florida Super Lawyer.

David Reale, CPCU, AIC, ARe

David Reale is senior reinsurance contract specialist at Hartford Steam Boiler, where he develops, negotiates and structures solutions for assumed treaties for several lines of business. A licensed property-casualty insurance producer, Reale previously spent many years working with workers compensation claims and in risk management roles.

Robert G. Whitlock Jr., FCAS, MAAA

Robert G. Whitlock Jr. is president and chief executive officer of The Philadelphia Contributionship. He previously spent 18 years with Harleysville Insurance Companies and also held positions at CIGNA Insurance Companies, Hastings Mutual Insurance Company and Prudential Insurance Companies. Whitlock currently serves as a member of the Actuarial Science Industry Advisory Board at St. Joseph’s University, is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Society of Philadelphia and is past chairman of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

Roy E. Wright, MPA

Roy E. Wright is president and chief executive officer at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. In this role, he leads a team of scientists and risk communicators who deliver strategies to build safer and stronger homes and businesses.
