Geographic Information Systems in Insurance

Thursday, July 13, 2017  2:00 pm Eastern

What it’s about:

The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has become increasingly prevalent in the pricing, product management and underwriting of personal and commercial property insurance. Analysis of an insurer's portfolio with accurate location information can reveal areas of risk or opportunity that are hidden when data is summarized at the territory or ZIP code level.  This session will explore the benefits of GIS analysis for pricing and underwriting, and will discuss specific techniques that insurers can use to achieve more accurate rating and better portfolio management.

At the conclusion of this webinar, the active participant will understand:

  • How insurers can enhance the quality of their data and the risks to which it is exposed through geocoding techniques
  • How to identify areas where property insurers can use spatial layers to understand and manage a portfolio risk
  • How rating territories derived by GIS-based analysis can provide a better match of rate to risk than territories based on traditional methods, such as ZIP code-based rating
