This year the Society will host a conversation focusing on how comprehensive education - from formal degrees and designations to mentorship programs and hands-on training - can #AccelerateAction to positively impact women's advancement in the insurance industry. 
 
Inspiring women Teresa Chan, director of the Master’s in Insurance Management program at Columbia University, Marisol Schulte, senior consultant in Personal Lines Insurance Strategic Planning at TransUnion, and Ranesha Dean, Branch Manager of the Caribbean Alliance Insurance Company, will share their experiences, insights, and advice in a discussion moderated by Cindy Baroway, executive director of the Risk Management and Insurance program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School.  

Through exploring both traditional and innovative professional development pathways, including leadership workshops, industry-specific skills training, and peer learning networks, the panelists will examine strategies to create meaningful opportunities for women to grow and succeed throughout their insurance careers.

Teresa Chan, J.D. 

Director, Master's in Insurance Management

Teresa Chan is the director of the Master’s in Insurance Management program at Columbia University, which she launched in 2019 after 27 years in the insurance industry. With expertise in legal, product, and business development, she has pioneered innovations in commercial property, casualty, and personal lines coverages, particularly for specialized markets like Native American tribes and renewable energy developers. Prior to Columbia, she held roles at AIG, Guy Carpenter, Willis Towers Watson, and NER. Teresa is dedicated to mentorship and advancing underrepresented professionals, serving on various advisory boards and working with high school students through Boys Hope Girls Hope. She holds a J.D. from Fordham University and a B.S. from Columbia University, and has been recognized as one of the "25 Women to Watch" by Business Insurance and one of the “Top Insurance Women” by ReActions Magazine.

Marisol Schulte, CPCU, AIC

Marisol Schulte supports in developing and executing TransUnion’s product strategy for the personal lines property and casualty markets. She has over 18 years of property and casualty insurance experience, beginning in claims, with additional positions in R&D and Product Management for State Farm, CSAA and Farmers.  Schulte attained her CPCU in 2017 and graduated cum laude from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Mathematics.

Ranesha Dean, CPCU, ARe, ARM

Ranesha Dean is a branch manager for Caribbean Alliance Insurance Company, a regional general insurance company in the Eastern Caribbean, and is responsible for the Bahamas operations. Her career in the general insurance industry began in 2009 and she has worked in various roles over the years including sales, underwriting, claims and compliance. She holds a BA in economics and finance from The University of The Bahamas (formerly College of The Bahamas) and several designations with The Institutes including the CPCU designation (2022). Ranesha is an avid insurance learner and eager to dive into new insurance topics as an aspiring insurance writer.

Cindy Baroway, CPCU, M.Ed., AIC (Moderator)

Cindy Baroway, CPCU, M.Ed, AIC, has over 30 years of experience in the risk management and insurance industry. She served as the chair and president of the Global CPCU Society, becoming the first Asian-American and fifth female in this role. Cindy has held leadership positions at Safeco Insurance and served as a Lakewood City Councilor. She is the executive director of the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) Program at CU Denver, where she teaches and mentors students. Cindy has been recognized with multiple awards for her contributions to the industry and community. She is also active on several nonprofit boards and enjoys spending time with her family and outdoor activities.
