What is something you wish everybody knew about the CPCU Society?
The Society and its members have been stereotyped for a number of years as a bunch of "academic" types that know a lot about insurance buy aren't really movers and shakers. That couldn't be further from the truth! The Risk Management & Insurance professionals in the Society are changing the face of the industry every day and the education/network provided to us by the CPCU designation/Society is the foundation that change is built on.
CPCU Society members are passionate about their work. Some call this "geeking out" or being an "Insurance nerd." What have YOU been trying to get better at recently, and what was helpful to you?
Recently, I have been laser focused on how our industry markets itself. Specifically, video and audio content distributed through social media channels and email. Working within the CPCU Society has been extremely helpful and led to a lot of creative inspiration on my part.
Some people think there's more to life than insurance and risk management. If you agree, tell us about something else you're passionate about.
I am a HUGE proponent of entrepreneurship. As a co-founder of a scratch agency 3 years ago, I now fully understand the exciting and painful rigors of starting and running a business. Just recently, I mentored a pair of teams from a local high school in a virtual business plan competition, Virtual Enterprises International. The kids didn't make it to the national championship this year but if I've taught them one thing, hopefully it's that you only fail if you stop trying!
