MALVERN, Pa.—The Institutes CPCU Society International Ambassador (CSIA) Program has selected Hirotatsu Teraoka, CPCU, to represent international CPCU Society members at The Institutes CPCU Society 2019 Annual Meeting from September 21 to 24 in New Orleans.
Teraoka is a specialty and cyber lines and government expert for Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company (MSI), based in Tokyo. He has 15 years of experience in the insurance industry and previously worked as a treaty negotiator for the Japanese Ministry of Transport. Teraoka currently serves as president of the Japan CPCU Society Chapter. He spent one year at Columbia Business School as a research fellow in international business diplomacy and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Tokyo.
“I am delighted to be chosen as the CPCU Society’s 2019 international ambassador,” Teraoka said. “I am most grateful to the Japan Chapter colleagues and international CPCU Society members for giving me this incredible opportunity. Though Japan is home to only 140 CPCUs, we are pleased to welcome 23 new designees in 2019. I hope this recognition will encourage more people to earn their CPCU designation and join the CPCU Society in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.”
In response to the growing number of international CPCU® designees and candidates, the CPCU Society has expanded its presence outside the United States. CPCUs and CPCU candidates not based in the U.S. face different challenges from those who are, including having to learn the material and take the exams in English, which may be a second language for them.
The CPCU Society established the CSIA Program to recognize CPCUs outside the U.S. for their efforts in promoting the CPCU designation globally and to provide financial support for them to attend the CPCU Society Annual Meeting.
