Chapter Good Works Projects
(partial list)
Akron-Canton
Held annual Christmas drive for funds for toys that were purchased
and delivered by members to the Akron Children’s Medical
Center. This event was completed by partnering with P/C companies,
local insurance
agencies, and individual members.
Alamo
Partnered with St. Paul Travelers for the Susan B. Koman Race for the
Cure in San Antonio on April 1, 2006.
Allegheny
Worked with Peerless Insurance Company for Sing-A-Long at SW Veterans
Center in June 2006. Chapter also collected phone cards for Walter
Reid Hospital
for the injured soldiers in December 2005.
Bayou
Partnered with State Farm in the local Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides
walk on May 20, 2006. Several chapter members and candidates participated.
Boston
The Boston Chapter organized a Good Works project to benefit the Greater
Boston Food Bank. The press release read, “13,400 pounds give or
take a few ounces. That’s the amount of food 23 volunteers
from the Boston Chapter of the CPCU Society and One Beacon Insurance
helped
to sort
at the Greater Boston Food Bank on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Working
with other Boston-area volunteers these insurance professionals
each processed
about 200 pounds of food, or the equivalent of 145 meals.”
California Golden Empire
Chapter partnered with State Farm to send stuffed animals and clothing
to people displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The chapter partners with
State Farm to donate teddy bears to local community hospital.
Cedar Valley
Participated in bowling for Junior Achievement on November 5, 2005.
Ten chapter members and candidates raised over $1,000 in donations
for the
charitable event.
Central Arizona (Phoenix)
Chapter partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a Chapter work
day on April 22, 2006. There were 13 in attendance from our chapter.
Central Massachusetts (Worcester)
Invitation extended to sponsor area youth driver training with
local driving school programs. Partnered with Utica Mutual and
provided DVDs
on youthful
drivers to area school departments through the Massachusetts
Teachers Association. Press coverage included an article in the
Worcester Telegram.
Central Missouri (Columbia)
The chapter partnered with State Farm Insurance in September
2005 to collect old cell phones for Special Olympics. In April
2006, two chapter
members
partnered with the Columbia Council of PTAs and the State Farm
Driver Program information, to present a program at Fairview
Elementary School
for the
benefit of parents of new, young drivers.
Dayton-Miami Valley
Conducted a drive for household supply kits for a Dayton homeless
support facility.
District of Columbia Chapter
KEEN: “Kids Enjoy Exercise Now” Sports Festival. Assisted
families with disabled children for a day of sports activities
and an outdoor picnic. Eastern North Carolina
Collected food and monetary donations in favor of the North Carolina
Food Bank during our November I-Day. This was done in partnership
with local
insurance employers and members. We also participated with 10
people in the spring fundraising event of the local public TV station
WUNC-TV.
At
the September Chapter luncheon meeting, we accepted donations
for the American Red Cross.
Greater Detroit
Along with local employers, conducted a drive for blankets and
clothing for local homeless individuals.
Hawaii
Partnered with employers for the ACS Relay for Life, Ronald McDonald
House Charities dinners, and the Katrina Relief Fund.
Kansas City
Chapter member Mac Humphies coordinated the traditional
CPCU/Rotary sale of Kansas City Star newspapers with
all the money
going to local charities
to support summer camps for kids. Over 85 members of
the CPCU Society’s
Kansas City Chapter helped sell these papers on opening
day for the KC Royals. The chapter raised $6,426, and the Kansas
City Star
published
an article regarding the event.
Los Angeles
Actively participated in six Good Works programs over
the past year including LA Food Bank, Child Share,
St. Anne’s
Home, Special Olympics, Neighborhood Pride Day (with CA
FAIR Plan), and National
Scleroderma Foundation encouraging
local employer support and participation.
Middle Georgia
Money from our I-Day plus our Good Works project funds
were sent to the Katrina Relief effort through the
national CPCU Society.
Northeastern New York (Albany)
Co-sponsor and supporter of Christopher Dailey Foundation
Golf Tourney supporting local youth athletics.
Northeastern
Pennsylvania
Partnered with Guard Insurance and a community
outreach program where CPCUs spent a Saturday
morning sorting
food to be delivered
to low-income
seniors
in the area. Also have an adopt-the-highway
clean up quarterly for an Exit off I-81.
Pacific
Northwest
Members volunteered to assist the local
Braille Institute with rewinding talking
books.
Sacramento
Valley
Partnered with California Highway Patrol
to acquire teddy bear donations for
needy children.
San Gabriel
Valley
Members coordinated and participated
in Neighborhood Cleanup Day with
California FAIR Plan and
employers.
Rhode Island
In December, co-sponsored the annual
Mothers Against Drunk Driving holiday “Mock
tail” event at Amica Insurance.
This program involves 20+ local
high school student
teams
in competition to produce
winning
non-alcoholic
holiday
drinks. The event received coverage
in the Providence Journal.
St. Louis
In conjunction with local employers,
our chapter held a coat drive
in November and
December and a
Book and Board Game
Drive in December
to
benefit Edgewood
Children’s Center.
Syracuse
Local Members volunteered at
the Salvation Army’s Christmas
Bureau on 12/22/05 to distribute toys and food to underprivileged
families.
Tidewater, Virginia
The chapter partnered with the Kiwanis
to distribute Toys for Tots along with
the Salvation
Army.
