James
R. Marks, CAE, CPCU, AIM, executive vice president of the CPCU Society,
presents a check to Eileen Welde, director of corporate and external
relations for the American Red Cross’s Southeastern Pennsylvania
Chapter, at the Society’s national headquarters in Malvern, PA. |
Thanks
to the generous contributions of members and chapters, the CPCU Society
presented a $60,000 check to the American Red Cross on November 14. All
of the funds went directly to the Red Cross’s Katrina Relief Fund.
The Red Cross is providing food, shelter, emergency financial assistance,
and physical and mental health services to Hurricane Katrina survivors.
The Society established
a Katrina Emergency Relief Fund on September 6 in response to requests
from members and chapters. Katrina affected millions of people, including
many Society members. Some members lost their homes and businesses or
were displaced, and others worked tirelessly to handle insurance claims
under adverse conditions. |
Members
and chapters contributed $35,000 to the Society’s emergency relief
fund. The Society contributed $25,000 in matching funds. In addition,
a number of members and chapters contributed money directly to the Red
Cross or other charities. As of mid-November, 85 members, 36 chapters,
and five other contributors have made donations. See a list of the contributors.
Although the Society
is no longer collecting contributions, you can make donations directly
to the Red Cross or other charities.
Thank you for generously
supporting the Society’s Katrina Emergency Relief Fund. Your contributions
will allow the Red Cross to help more people during this time of great
need. |
