Codes of Ethics

Did you know that most members of the CPCU Society have pledged to abide by two Codes of Ethics? All Society members agree to abide by the CPCU Society’s Code of Ethics as a condition of membership. In addition, CPCUs who earned their designation after 1977 agree to abide by the American Institute for CPCU (AICPCU) Code of Professional Ethics (pdf). CPCUs earning the designation prior to 1977 were given an opportunity to agree voluntarily to be subject to the AICPCU code.

Both codes are enforced. The harshest penalty available to the CPCU Society is expulsion from membership. Only the AICPCU can revoke the CPCU designation for egregious violations. The Society and the AICPCU adjudicate complaints separately, but work together to assure that the designation and the profession are monitored rigorously.
