Mission Accomplished! CPCUs Celebrate Heritage and Horizons
in Philadelphia
A total of 1,600 people — including CPCUs, their guests,
industry leaders and exhibitors — attended the CPCU Society’s
2008 Annual Meeting and Seminars on Sept. 6-9 in Philadelphia,
Pa. A special thanks to the host Philadelphia Chapter, speakers
and sponsors who
helped to make the meeting a rousing success. Order 2008 Annual
Meeting seminar
recordings. Watch for the 2008 Annual Meeting Recap,
to be posted online soon. And make plans now to attend the 65th
Annual Meeting and Seminars on Aug. 29–Sept.
1, 2009, in Denver, Colo. |

New Officers Sworn
In
Marvin Kelly, CPCU, MBA, was sworn in as the Society’s
2008-2009 president on Sept. 8 at the Annual Meeting and Seminars.
Also taking the oath of office: Douglas J. Holtz, CPCU, CIC, CSP, CRM, president-elect; Warren
L. Farrar, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, newly elected vice president; and Brian
Savko, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, MSFS, FLMI, newly elected secretary/treasurer.
They were sworn in by James L. Britt, CPCU, immediate past president.
In addition, 11 newly elected governors and one appointed at-large governor
joined the Board of Governors. |

Champion Recruiting
Contest Winners Announced
Four chapters — Atlanta, Cypress Gardens, Fort Worth and Golden
Gate — have
won the Society’s Champion Recruiting Contest. The chapters were selected
as winners based on the number of chapter members who volunteered to become new
CPCU Society Champions between Aug. 1, 2007, and July 31, 2008. Winning chapters
received $150 or $300. To sign up to be a

The Connecticut Chapter will celebrate its 60th anniversary and recognize
its 2008 new designees and past presidents at a Sept. 25 reception at the

Tackling Climate Change Risk Management
The debate as to whether or not global warming is occurring appears to be losing
steam, as more and more scientists are convinced that the earth is becoming warmer.
The focus is now shifting to the steps that organizations can take to proactively

Joan G. Rexford,
CPCU, an Auto Claims Central
team manager at State Farm and a member of the Society’s California
Golden Empire Chapter, has been very involved in her department in recruiting
new associates to start the CPCU program. In an article that recently
appeared in an internal company publication, she talks about earning
her CPCU designation and being a mentor. “I’ve found success
through results and am proud of the career path I’ve taken,” she
said.
