Frequently Asked Questions about the CPCU Society

What is a new designee?
This is a term used to spotlight and recognize the CPCU Society’s newest members who have just completed their CPCU studies.

How long is my free membership in the CPCU Society, and what does it include?
In recognition of your CPCU designation, you will receive complimentary membership in the CPCU Society for the balance of the calendar year in which you are conferred. This free membership is for both the CPCU Society and your local chapter. You receive all the benefits of our regular membership.

Do I have to belong to both the CPCU Society and a local chapter?
To be considered a CPCU Society member, you must join the CPCU Society, but chapter membership is not required. However, most people find chapter membership to be an exciting and rewarding aspect of being a CPCU.

What chapter will I belong to? How is this decided?
The American Institute for CPCU makes your initial chapter assignment based on the zip code where you received your grades. However, you may belong to any chapter you wish—and as many chapters as you like. To change your chapter affiliation, simply call the Society’s Member Resource Center at (800) 932-2728, and select option 4.

Will the local chapter contact me?
Yes! Your local chapter has received your name, and will automatically add you to its mailing list. Many chapters hold local conferment ceremonies, and if this is the case someone will contact you shortly. If you would like to contact the local chapter yourself, call the Member Resource Center at (800) 932-CPCU and select option 4 for contact information.

What’s the best way to get involved in the Society?
Becoming active in your local chapter is the best way to get involved. Contact your local chapter representative, and volunteer to serve on a chapter committee or task force. From there, it’s possible to progress to chapter leadership roles, then to CPCU Society leadership roles!

Will my company help pay my dues?
Many property and casualty companies and agencies are strong supporters of the CPCU Society and their CPCU employees. Check with your company’s Human Resources Department to learn about your company’s policies.

How do I pay my dues?
All CPCU Society members (and new designees) will receive a dues invoice for the coming year in October. You may return your invoice with a check (either your personal check or your company’s check), or you may pay by credit card—Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Diner’s Club. If you’re paying by credit card, you may call the Member Resource Center at (800) 932-CPCU and select option 4 to pay your dues by phone or you may pay online.

Now that I’ve completed my CPCU, can I get continuing education through the CPCU Society?
Yes! The Society has many CE programs—from workshops to seminars to symposia—offering CE credits. As a Society member, you’ll receive information through the Society’s member communications, as well as by direct mail. Call the Member Resource Center for information, or access an up-to-date list of educational programs.

Where will the upcoming Annual Meetings/Conferments be held?
The 2008 Annual Meeting and Seminars will be held September 6-9, in Philadelphia, PA. See where upcoming meetings will be held by viewing the list of future Annual Meeting and Seminars.
