Presenters

William F. Knowles, J.D, is the construction defect practice area chair within Cozen O'Connor's Global Insurance Group. Working out of the firm's Seattle, Wash. office, he focuses his practice on insurance coverage matters. Knowles advises his clients concerning insurance coverage for a variety of claims, including construction defect, environmental and general liability. He has served in an advisory capacity while claims are pending and represents clients both before and after litigation with the insured ensues. Knowles has tried several insurance coverage cases to verdict in the state of Washington and federal court. He has addressed national and local audiences on various issues, including bad faith claims, additional insurance issues, allocation and coverage for general liability claims. Knowles earned his law degree, cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law, and his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Washington State University. He is a member of the Washington State, Oregon and King County bar associations, as well as the Washington State Defense Trial Lawyers association and the Construction Committee of the Defense Research Institute.
R. Bryan Tilden, CPCU, CIC, CLU, is a national lecturer and expert witness in the field of insurance. Prior to starting his own firm, Tilden and Associates, he was the director of technical affairs and director of education for IIANC. Tilden has been active in insurance education as a grading panel member for the Insurance Institute of America and the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters. In 1988, IIANC presented him with the Ernest F. Young Education Award, and in 1989 Agent of the Year. Tilden has taught in schools for both the PIA and IIAA, been a speaker at RIMS and CPCU Society meetings, and has spoken at various conventions.


Moderator
William F. Stewart, J.D., joined Cozen O’Connor in 1990 and practices in the Global Insurance Group. He is co-chair of the firm’s Climate Change/Global Warming practice, and serves clients on a broad range of global warming-related topics. He has lectured on climate change at numerous national symposia, and his work has been featured by NBC News, The National Law Journal, AMBest’s, International Financier, The Wall Street Journal and several insurance industry publications. Stewart provides counsel in connection with several high profile global warming lawsuits; and also litigates environmental, toxic, tort, and mold coverage, fraud and bad faith defense cases. He is a frequent lecturer and contributor to Business Insurance, Best’s Insurance, CPCU Society Interest Group newsletters, Mealey’s Bad Faith Reporter and Mealey’s Mold Litigation Reporter. He is an arbitrator for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, and the Montgomery Court of Common Pleas. Stewart earned his bachelor of arts degree at St. Joseph’s University and his law degree, cum laude, at the University of Notre Dame.
