Presents basic information about expert witness work, including helping the prospective expert witness to discern whether they are qualified for expert witness work, and, if the answer is yes, understand the basics of expert witness work and avoid major mistakes as an expert witness.

Presenters

Akos Swierkiewicz, CPCU is founder and principal of Insurance & Reinsurance Consulting & Outsourcing Services (“IRCOS, LLC”). Prior to IRCOS, LLC, he was chief underwriting officer of a reinsurance company and its excess and surplus lines insurance subsidiary. He has been a speaker at RIMS and International Risk Management Society conferences and he had written articles that were published by the National Underwriter, Business Insurance and Industry Focus. During the last few years, he has been active as consultant and expert witness.

Douglas R. Emerick, INS is an experienced underwriter and manager of various specialty lines of insurance including financial institution oriented products as well as surety and commercial fidelity. After ending his career with Continental Insurance he continued to broaden his insurance knowledge by working with both building cost and econometric valuation software providers. He now is an expert witness and manages the day to day operations of IRCOS, LLC and Insurance Expert Network, LLC, providers of insurance expert referrals to attorneys and other referral services.

Moderator

Vincent “Chip” Boylan, CPCU is a senior vice president with Willis of Maryland, Inc. and the current chairman of the CPCU Society’s Consulting, Litigation and Expert Witness Interest Group. Boylan has more than 33 years experience as an insurance agent/broker and has served as an expert witness in numerous insurance litigation cases during the past 20 years.
