CPCU Society Opening Session and AICPCU Conferment Ceremony
Join us for a very special CPCU Society Opening Session on Aug. 29, marking our first meeting in Denver since 1963. Honor the CPCU Class of 2009, and — for the first time in the Society’s history — welcome nonmembers to the Annual Meeting and Seminars. Celebrate with new designees while renewing your CPCU commitment at the Conferment Ceremony.

Aron Ralston

Conferment Speaker — Aron Ralston
Draw inspiration from conferment speaker Aron Ralston, who in the spring of 2003 faced a terrifying life-and-death ordeal deep in Utah’s remote Blue John Canyon, as his climbing expedition went suddenly and drastically wrong. Earlier that same year, he had been buried up to his neck in an avalanche while backcountry skiing in the Colorado Rockies. He managed to free himself and a skiing companion within 15 minutes.

An avid outdoorsman, Ralston left his job as a mechanical engineer at Intel in 2002 to focus on his climbing pursuits. Ralston has climbed mountains all over the world, including 119 of Colorado’s mountains higher than 13,800 feet, the 59 peaks taller than 14,000 feet, and the tallest mountains on each of three continents (Australia, North America and South America). In April 2005, he finished his nine-year project to climb the highest mountain in each of the 50 U.S. states, becoming the first amputee to accomplish the feat.

At the Conferment Ceremony, Ralston — author of the international best-seller Between a Rock and a Hard Place — will share with CPCUs and their guests a message of inspiration, hope and leadership.
