The Summit, held on April 2-5 in Orlando, Fla., included the Board of Governors’ spring meeting, committee and task force meetings, chapter leader workshops, and CPCU Society Center for Leadership courses.

Special events included a breakfast meeting, three luncheons, and two evening receptions. Luncheon speakers included Marty Murphy, CPCU, senior vice president of Jacobson Associates; F. Scott Addis, CPCU, president and CEO of The Addis Group; and Douglas J. Holtz, CPCU, CIC, CSP, CRM, the Society’s vice president.

Vermont Chapter Wins Award
Congratulations to the Vermont Chapter, which won the Society’s 2008 Ethics Awareness Award for its creativity in celebrating Ethics Awareness Month in March. The chapter received the award and a $100 check on April 4 at the Leadership Summit. See photo of award presentation.

The chapter had invited Art Cohn, an elite diver and historian, to give a presentation on ethics in history. Cohn emphasized that dealing with ethical questions is often difficult because people may disagree on what is proper behavior in a given set of circumstances. He drew upon his experiences in underwater archeology, in which there may be disagreement over what to do with artifacts.

He is an instructor for the CPCU Society Center for Leadership and a past president of the Maryland Chapter.

The Richard A. Gerrond Memorial Award honors an outstanding volunteer connected with the CPCU Society Center for Leadership. The award was created in memory of Richard A. Gerrond, CPCU, CIC, a dedicated instructor and Society governor, who passed away in January 2005.
