James L. Britt, CPCU, is a managing director of Marsh USA
Inc. in Charlotte, NC. An active member and past president of the
CPCU Society's Charlotte Chapter, Britt chaired the 2004 Annual Meeting
Task Force. He also served the Society as a 1995 -1996 regional vice
president. He is a certified facilitator and master trainer for the
CPCU Society Center for Leadership, and recently authored Building
Leaders One on One,
an autobiographical journey addressing the personal “building-block
process” of leadership growth. He is a contributing member
of the CPCU-Loman Education Foundation. And also a member of the
University of North Carolina Educational Foundation; and has had
extensive experience in high school, collegiate, and masters swimming
as a competitor and official.
Panelists
Roger L. Looyenga is
chairman & CEO of Auto-Owners Insurance
Company located in Lansing, Michigan. Auto-Owners is a property
casualty and life insurance company writing business in 25 states through
independent insurance agencies.
Looyenga started
his career with Auto-Owners as an auditor-engineer in Minnesota. His contributions and experience span corporate divisions
as well as several states. He was a Lansing branch underwriter
in 1971; a marketing representative in northern Indiana in 1972; in 1980
he transferred to the home office as manager, market development. In
1982, Looyenga was named regional vice president, St. Paul region, then
in 1988 came back to Lansing as vice president, sales. In 1991,
he was named senior vice president, property casualty marketing department,
until 1992 when he was named senior vice president, marketing. Looyenga
was elected to the board of directors in 1995. He became executive
vice president in 1999. He became CEO on February 1, 2004 and in
May 2006 became Chairman of the Board .
Looyenga earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in business and psychology from Minot State
College in 1970. He has completed the CPCU and
CLU designations. He serves on the board of trustees of the American
Institute for CPCU (AICPCU) and the Insurance Institute of America (IIA). He
also serves on the Regional Business Travel Trust board, Lansing Regional
Chamber of Commerce board and CEO Network.
Kathy Muedder, CPCU, is
the senior vice president, underwriting and reinsurance for Selective
Insurance Group, Inc., and Selective Insurance.. Muedder oversees the
commercial lines underwriting, reinsurance, safety management and premium
audit functions at Selective. She joined Selective in May of 2005. Most recently, she served as senior vice president
of Emerging Issues for ACE USA. She also serves on the AmComp Board
of Directors.
Muedder was employed
by Royal and Sun Alliance in Charlotte, N.C. where she was the Worldwide
Practice Leader for Workers Compensation and Risk Office Executive. She previously served as the associate executive
director at the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) and also
has worked for Zurich Insurance as vice president of Corporate Underwriting
and Government Affairs Director. Her experience is international
in scope and has included assignments in New Zealand, Australia, the
United Kingdom and Canada. She began her career with Allstate Insurance
as an agent and underwriter.
A seasoned insurance
professional, Muedder is the author of “Singapore
and Lessons From a Global Perspective” in Asia Insurance Review and “The
Case for Total Absence Management” in Human Resources Planning. She
also has served as the Chairperson of the American Insurance Association
(AIA) Workers Compensation Committee, Chair of the New York Compensation
Insurance Rating Board and a board member for the Workers Compensation
Research Institute (WCRI), California Workers Compensation Institute
(CWCI), NJCRIB, PACRB, National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI)
and National Workers Compensation Reinsurance Pool (NWCRP).
Muedder earned her
Bachelor of Science degree in insurance from Roosevelt University in
Chicago and has completed advance studies at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business. She
also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
Robert Restrepo Jr., CPCU, is president of the State Auto Insurance
Companies. He had been appointed as chairman and chief executive officer
in February 2006.
Restrepo provides a broad background in the property casualty insurance
industry, encompassing both national and regional companies and consistently
demonstrates a strong commitment to the independent agency system. His
varied experience includes senior executive roles at Aetna, Travelers,
Hanover, and most recently with Main Street America Group in Jacksonville,
Fla.

where he served as Chairman in 2003.
Robert Joyce is
chairman and chief executive officer of Westfield Group. Joyce leads
a diversified financial services organization with over $4 billion
in assets. Westfield is one of the country's 50
largest property & casualty insurers, providing commercial and personal
insurance, surety policies, as well as mortgage, banking, and title services
to customers in 28 states. Westfield is rated "A" (Excellent)
for financial strength by A.M. Best, a leading insurance financial rating
company.
His experience in
the insurance industry spans 30 years and includes serving in various
senior leadership positions in Reliance Insurance Group before joining
Westfield in 1996. Prior
to CEO, Joyce held the positions of president of Westfield Management
Company and chief operating officer at Westfield.
Joyce graduated from
Villanova University with a degree in business administration.
He is chairman of the Board of Governors for the Property Casualty
Insurers Association of America (PCI). He is also a trustee for
the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation and serves on the Board
of Trustees of the Cleveland Playhouse Square Foundation.
