The Value of Diversity and Inclusion for CPCU

Leveraging and valuing all of our talent is a key ingredient for organizational success today and moving forward. These skills impact organizational success, team success and individual productivity. Participants will understand their personal roles in becoming culturally competent in leveraging diverse talent. The course will concentrate on the dynamics of subtle biases as they relate to creating productive relationships, and it will demonstrate how diversity and inclusion are values to business.

Presenters

Doug Harris is the managing director and owner of The Kaleidoscope Group. His clients include The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Blue Cross Blue Shield, McDonald's, Case Western Reserve University Law School, Coca-Cola Bottling, Duracell, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, University of Chicago, and The Wharton School. Harris' extensive experience in managing cultural differences extends into the global arena. He has designed global cultural awareness workshops for Hewlett-Packard (Asia), Duracell Aarshot (Belgium), Duracell (Brazil), and Caterpillar (Italy). Harris previously worked for Proctor & Gamble and Scott Paper as. He also founded and served as president of Samuel Roberts & Associates. Harris is called upon as an executive coach to assist executives with understanding their role in championing a diversity effort. His engaging style and unique instructional ability helps give diversity greater meaning at all levels of any organization.

Harris is currently chairs the Diversity Committee for Chicago SHRP and authors a column in the Shaker Recruitment Advertising quarterly newsletter. He holds degrees in economics and sociology from Tufts University.

Martin H. Alpert, J.D., CPCU, ARM, ARe, ASLI, CDP, is six sigma green belt certified, and is a litigation management consultant with Chicago-based Alpert & Associates. Alpert is a highly accomplished litigation attorney with 100 percent success rate in more than 20 years of front-line trial practice. Previously, Alpert litigated for Pretzel & Stouffer, Chd. and Arnstein & Lehr. He has also served as claims director for GE Reinsurance.

Alpert is a member of the CPCU Society's Diversity Committee, the Reinsurance, and Consulting, Litigation, & Expert Witness Interest Group. He is a member of the Illinois Bar, American and Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Forum for Environmental and Toxic Tort Issues, DRI, IADC, chairperson for Cook and Dupage County Mandatory Arbitration program, National Business Institute.
