The reinsurance industry faces formidable challenges in a constantly evolving market. The 2008 edition of this seminar will provide a timely, provocative and enlightening examination numerous crucial issues facing the insurance and reinsurance industries today. An experienced panel of senior executives will discuss the topics that are most important at the time of the seminar.

Moderator

Tracy W. Laws, J.D., is the senior vice president and general counsel of the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA.) She is responsible for establishing and advocating the RAA’s public policy positions. Laws was previously a partner at the firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP concentrating on reinsurance matters. She is a member of Mealey’s 2006 Insurance Advisory Council, the AIDA Reinsurance & Insurance Society Law Committee and the ABA’s TIPS Federal Involvement in Insurance Regulation Modernization Task Force.

Law received her B.A. from the College of William and Mary and her J.D. from the University of Virginia. She is a member of the Texas and District of Columbia Bars.

Presenters

Janice M. Abraham, is the president and CEO of United Educators Insurance and Management Company.  She has worked in various positions at Whitman College, Cornell University, the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO,) and J.P. Morgan.

Abraham serves on the board of governors of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America and the board of directors of United Educators. She has been identified as a top leader by Business Insurance, the Association of Professional Insurance Women and the NACUBO.

Abraham earned her M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelors degree from American University.

Chris T. Brockett is an Executive Vice President and Principal in the Philadelphia office of the Reinsurance business of Towers Perrin.  Brockett has extensive experience in the analysis and measurement of risk as it relates to insurers of both Property / Casualty as well as Life, Accident and Health business.  He specializes in reinsurance program design and the placement of traditional and non-traditional reinsurance structures. He is a frequent public speaker on various topics relating to reinsurance.

Prior to joining Towers Perrin in 1984, Brockett held senior management positions with several reinsurers dating back to 1976. His experience also includes Home Office and Field Operations management with the Teledyne Group of insurance companies where he began his insurance and reinsurance career in 1971. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Colorado State University.

Greg Coda, CPCU, is president of the Broker Market division of Munich Reinsurance America, and a member of its Leadership Team. The Broker Market division is responsible for all Munich Re Group U.S. regional property and casualty business written through reinsurance brokers, as well as for managing overall strategic relationships with brokers. 

Coda began his career with the Prudential Insurance Company of America.  He later transferred to Prudential Reinsurance Company’s Facultative Division where he spent several years underwriting surety and financial guarantee business before returning to property and casualty treaty marketing and underwriting. In 1995 Coda joined Swiss Re America Corporation, where he held various positions in management and marketing in both the regional and global & national segments.  He joined Gallagher Re in 2003 as a Senior Vice President with treaty production responsibility. Coda was hired by Munich Re America in 2004 as Senior Vice President and Business Unit Leader of its National Accounts Group, where he was responsible for the marketing and underwriting of products and services to national account customers.  Greg was promoted to his current role on January 1, 2008.

Coda holds an undergraduate degree from Montclair State University and earned an MBA from Seton Hall University.  He earned the CPCU designation in 1982, the Associate in Reinsurance in 1992, the Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding in 1996 and the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter designation in 1999.  He is past Chairman of the PLUS Eastern Chapter Steering Committee and has been a speaker at various industry events.
