On April 19, the Board of Governors approved a recommendation to rename the Society's 14 sections as “interest groups,” along with other related strategic initiatives.

This strategic repositioning will ultimately better serve Society members, and the industry at large. The Sections Strategic Implementation Task Force noted that re-naming sections signals something “new and improved.” The term “sections” carries connotations of silos, while “interests” applies whether one works in a discipline, or just has an interest in learning more.

Key objectives of this important initiative are to increase:

• participation of more industry professionals
• membership within various interest groups
• affiliations with other key industry organizations
• opportunity for the formation of new interest groups
• interest in the CPCU designation, and number of CPCU candidates
• awareness of the CPCU Society and its chapters

The recommendations and division of work fall into four categories: organizational structure, leadership development, membership, and added value services. Due to the scope of this initiative an Interest Group Resource & Governance (IGRG) task force will manage and direct all of the recommended changes. The task force will be responsible for implementing the tasks that the Board approves. It will also provide the leadership, continuity, consistency, and quality that are imperative to the success of this very important project.

This re-branding effort will impact the Society interest groups over the next several months as various initiatives are explored, researched, and implemented.
