Brexit and the Insurance Industry: One Year On from the Referendum

What it’s about:

On June 23, 2016, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. This will have a significant impact on the international insurance industry centered in London. This webinar, the third in the series, will examine how the background of Brexit has developed in the months since the previous webinars, look at how the insurance industry will be affected, and discuss how the industry must prepare for March 2019, when the UK finally leaves the EU. 

At the conclusion of this webinar, the active participant will understand:

  • The regulatory, political, legal, constitutional and economic background that the insurance industry faces in dealing with Brexit
  • The challenges facing the insurance industry as a result of Brexit
  • How insurers are preparing for the departure of the UK from the EU

Clive O’Connell, Esq.

Clive O'Connell is a lawyer and leads the insurance and reinsurance team at McCarthy Denning. He has worked in the reinsurance sphere since 1982, litigating and arbitrating some of the largest disputes of the past three decades in many different jurisdictions. Using his experience with contracts that have gone wrong as guide, O'Connell has also assisted clients in drafting wordings for reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) transactions. He is general counsel to and on the board of the International Insurance Society and a nonexecutive director of Twelve Capital (UK) Limited, an ILS fund manager. He is a graduate of University College London.

Don George

Don George is the Vice President of Casualty and Professional Liability for Royal & SunAlliance Insurance Agency. He earned his AU, ARM, and CPCU designations from The Institutes and received his MBA in Finance from Temple University. In addition, he is the incoming president of the New York Chapter of the CPCU Society, on the committee of the International Insurance Interest Group, and on the Board of the Europe Chapter of the CPCU Society. He travels frequently to speak to underwriter and broker audiences on the intricacies of the US versus international insurance systems.

How do I report my CE for CPCUs credit?

Webinars count for 1 hour of CE for CPCUs credit. Your credit will be automatically reported with your registration for a live webinar. You can also earn CE for CPCUs credit by viewing recorded webinars though the Knowledge Center. All webinars watched in the Knowledge Center will be automatically reported for 1 credit.

Are CPCU Society webinars approved for state licensure CE?

At this time none of the webinars are approved for CE in any state.
